Position Title:                                            Academic Specialist/Facilitator

The Academic Specialist /Facilitator is responsible for developing Mother-Tongue based Multi-Lingual (MTBMLE) teaching and learning resources / instruction materials, curriculum that will support Govt. Teachers (pre and Primary school teachers) to practice new ways of working with children from the marginalized communities that enhances their learning levels. This includes facilitating gamut of processes for contextual content development, modules, TLMs etc. S/he will also facilitate training of the government teachers, implementing team of NEG-FIRE, to improve quality of teaching and learning for enhancing children’s learning outcomes in Government schools. Key Responsibilities include:

1. Content Development and Teacher Training: (Pre and Primary Schools):

  • Develop and design innovative and contextual teaching learning contents (classroom materials) in line with NEGFIRE’s MTBMLE approach and State curriculum and learning standards for pre-primary and early grades.
  • Facilitate the community-based content development process - content collection from the community, school teachers and local education experts. This also includes expert group formation at district level for content review and sorting.
  • Prepare annual Teachers Training plans and budgets, with guidance from Program Manager
  • Facilitate and manage Teacher Training programs in project districts as per the training plans and guidelines and ensure efficient implementation of the training programs.
  • Assist in selection of teachers for the trainings, support in identifying training venues.
  • Facilitate post-teacher training follow-up workshops and meetings.
  • Prepare detailed training report of all trainings conducted and share it with NEG-FIRE and with relevant Government officials.

2. Academic support to Field team:

  • Develop Training plans for NEG-FIRE’s implementing team in the project districts.
  • Facilitate designing and implementing teacher training programmes at field level
  • Lead and support implementation teams on learning assessment of children in both pre and primary schools in the intervention areas
  • Support in conducting base-line and end-line survey of school teachers and schools coming under the teacher training area.
  • Ensure that teachers and schools in the project areas are monitored by the government counterparts regularly and as per guidelines.

3. Collaboration with Government departments:

  • Responsible to obtain necessary approvals from the education departments for conducting various teachers training programs
  • Responsible for establishing and maintaining relationships with school teachers and government officials, and respond to issues with the support from Program Manager, that may arise in these relationships.
  • Prepare presentations for monthly / quarterly review meetings with Government Departments.
  • Organize and lead review meetings at field level and track progress of implementation through regular review meetings and field visits; flag off deviations and delays at the earliest.
  • Attend government meetings, trainings, discussion and committees on teacher training and use those forums to enable favourable policies and government orders in support of early learning, especially using Inclusive approaches and other strategies promoted by NEG-FIRE.

Take up other tasks which may be requested by the Program Manager/ Head-PMD/ Executive Director as per the emerging needs in the organisation.

Qualifications, Experience and skills:

  • Master’s Degree in Education /Social Sciences / Early Childhood Education related field
  • Strong understanding of Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN), NEP, NIPUN Bharat
  • Sound knowledge and skills in developing MTBMLE pedagogies, curriculum development, module for teacher training, and Teaching Learning Material
  • Minimum 5 years of experience of working on education for tribal communities in Odisha.
  • Proven experience of Teacher Training Facilitation skills.
  • Experience of working with Government education departments, government schools teachers, education officials at District and Block level in Odisha.
  • Highly meticulous about detail and well organised, and prioritise a demanding workload and tight deadlines.
  • Must be well-versed with Odia, Hindi and English languages. Familiarity with tribal dialects spoken in Odisha would be an added advantage.
