India is home to the single largest number of indigenous people at 10.2 crores, constituting 8% of the total population. While India has progressive constitutional provisions, which legislatively secures the benefits to the tribal population, however, administratively and educationally this group remains underserved and marginalized. 51% are below the poverty line, 50.6% literacy, 65% are landless. They are unable to exercise their educational rights to reduce barriers of underdevelopment. Education ensures that all students, regardless of their socio-economic background, are given equal opportunity to perform well in schools and are better prepared to improve quality of their life.
