An Educational Space for Tribal Culture and Ethos
India has witnessed the longest school closures in the world, due to the global pandemic since 2020.
UNESCO estimates that schools in countries like the USA were closed for 62 weeks, whereas in India it spanned 73 weeks and still on-going (as of January 2022).
Several lakhs of children still await admission and may get re-enrolled only when the schools fully reopen.
Our field based data shows that 65.4% of students are unable to catch up with the curriculum.
Some of these children now are even unable to correctly spell their names.
NEG FIRE has responded to this downward learning spiral by establishing learning corners; where our learning facilitators have undertaken classroom sessions for groups of 3-5 children;
The intervention does not violate government orders concerning social distancing; while also ensuring right to education is not denied to the students
Treasure House is an innovative, community-based intervention, to ensure that every single child living in the remotest of locations has access to a place where they can learn and be with other children, instil in themselves values of diversity and have immense self-belief.
In some villages, parents have built treasure houses on village land, using local resources.
NEG-FIRE is working with 1185 preschools and 975 Primary schools and is ensuring that the marginalised children have access to quality education.
80 Treasure Houses have been established in the past two years. Many more to go!!
We appeal for donations. Each treasure house adds up to a cost of Rs. 4.00 lakhs.
